'Known for their very frantic live performances, Pulled Apart by Horses are one of the most exciting bands to emerge from the thriving Leeds music scene. Their sometimes angular but mostly aggressive, amp-melting blend of rock riffs and contemporary alt-noise has seen them establish themselves as one of the most essential new acts in Britain.'
occupies a position in music, which is contentious. He divides opinion. His performances are often unsettling, self-consciously clumsy, hilarious, beautiful but above all memorable. People go away saying they've never seen anything like it before.
Leeds band Dinosaur Pile-Up released their debut album, Growing Pains, to critical acclaim in the UK last October. The album has spawned two playlisted Radio One singles and has another on the way. The band hit the road as part of the Rock sound national tour of the UK in February and in the past have supported the Pixies across Europe and The Kills among others.
Big favourites of BBC Radio 1's Huw Stephens, Little Comets specialise in lovelorn paeans, awash with majestic pop hooks. Debut album 'In Search of Elusive Little Comets' was released on January 31st. Self-produced and mixed by Rich Costey (MGMT / Glasvegas), the album is witness to a band who have built their reputation with thrilling live shows, impromptu guerrilla gigs and a string of indie-pop gems.
British Electro-Rockers Viva City mash electro beats, gritty guitar riffs and synthesizer-heavy basslines. The band have drawn comparisons with The Faint, Prodigy, Depeche Mode & Justice, and established a buzz for their impulsive sound at CMJ 2010 and The Viper Room in LA. They recently supported BBC Radio 1 DJ Kissy Sellout on tour and kick off 2011 at Canadian Music Week prior to SXSW. The band's 'Phobia' EP is out now.
Art-rock four-piece Tigers That Talked, from Leeds, UK, twist effect-adorned strings and haunting vocals around a pulsing rhythm section, creating multi-layered, intensely beautiful music that strikes a subtle balance between the anthemic and the experimental. They were recently hailed as 'my new favourite band' by BBC's influential Steve Lamacq.
Alvarez Kings play electro-tinged indie pop, driving bass and an upbeat aesthetic,Funk -infused baseline and soulful vocals with cut-throat guitar riffs and Smash-your- face-in drums, a gritty charm form Sheffield. With buckets of raw energy.
juice are an experimental vocal trio who perform a unique mix of incredible sounds from Central African-inspired riffs to vocal percussion, ethereal harmonies to rumbling drones. Joining the dots between classical, jazz, pop, folk and electronica, their edgy performances pulse with a sense of theatre and a love of words. Debut Juice Album, produced by Gabriel Prokofiev out on www.nonclassical.co.uk in April 2011.
"Kind of like children's party entertainment by Arcade Fire, Bear Driver mix fuzzy pop songs with ambitious choruses and a playful use of instruments. Their critically-acclaimed EP "Paws & Claws" was released in spring 2009, followed by a succession of festival appearances. Debut single "Wolves" was released July last year and saw them tour extensively across the UK. Having been invited to SXSW they can now look forward to sharing their instantly-infectious music with the Austin audiences."
Recently signed to Atlantic Records in the States for a multi-album worldwide deal. Album out this year. File next to ... Fleetwood Mac, Death Cab For Cutie, Ryan Adams. Listen to ... Heart on Fire
York's Asking Alexandria exploded onto the Metalcore scene in 2009 with their debut album 'Stand Up and Scream'. Persistent touring alongside the likes of Enter Shikari and The Bled helped the band gain widespread recognition as genre figureheads in both the UK and America.
The New Mastersounds are a four-piece funk band based in Leeds, England. The band formed in February 1999. Their first single, One Note Brown,In 2006 they had a hit single with ‘Your Love is Mine’, which features their old friend from Leeds Corinne Bailey Rae on vocals. Their most recent outing Plug & Play sees them heading in a more vocal direction with the aid of soul screamer Dionne Charles of Baby Charles on four tracks..
