Pulled Apart By Horses (Leeds) The band's manager Alex Wall kindly let us know about an offer from Roskilde - "this was purely based on seeing them live and the crowd's reaction to the show. This offer alone pretty much made the trip worth it, but added to points 1 & 2 (US labels and agents who also pitched up to the showcase) I'd say it was pretty successful all in all"
Label Moshi Moshi: "After catching them at Timeless Music Project's riotous Yorkshire SXSW Party Niw! Records brought Slow Club to Japan for the first time for 8 memorable debut shows over 10 days".
Peter White (Fear and Records) let us know that Diplo saw Sheffield's Rolo Tomassi play our Yorkshire Showcase in 2009 and afterwards approached them to produce their next album (which he did in 2010).
Penny Blackham - Manager of The Crookes "Of all the additional shows available at SXSW it was the Yorkshire showcase The Crookes were most keen to appear at. It was an opportunity to place ourselves within the context of where we're from for an International audience and also we were aware of how significant the reputation of the showcase now is and therefore how vital it was for The Crookes to be associated with it. The event was very well publicized and professionally run which meant The Crookes were able to play the best show of their 5 shows there. As a direct result we garnered brilliant press and it has boosted our reputation significantly. We are also discussing further opportunities in the US and also Japan with people who were present or who's representatives were present. It is safe to say if the Yorkshire Showcase didn't have such a strong reputation those people would not have been in attendance and for that we are forever grateful"
Julian Wall (Director of International Events, BPI - the international trades association) - "thanks very much for inviting me up to your International Music Conference Briefing meeting in Leeds. I was most impressed by the exceptionally large turnout you delivered - I think that there were over 200 local companies represented at the event. It was most helpful to be able to meet, introduce the BPI and network with everybody and hopefully vice-versa. Alongside your excellent Yorkshire Music showcase at the annual South By South West (SXSW) festival in Austin Texas, I commend you and your partners at Timeless Music Project and musicyorkshire.com in the work you do supporting local music in the region"
Judith Govey (Association of Independent Music - the national trades association) - "It would be considered a major step backwards for the music industry in the Yorkshire region if this showcase and supporting activity were not to take place at SXSW"
Carlo Cavagna (Consul -- Head of Trade & Investment) at UK Trade & Investment (Los Angeles) - "Pat is a dedicated music professional. As the organizer of music industry briefings in Yorkshire, the Yorkshire music showcases at the British Music Embassy at South by South West, promotional Yorkshire music compilations, and community-oriented projects such as the Timeless Music Festival, Pat has consistently demonstrated selfless dedication and a passion for the idea that music can improve lives. Also, he is a fantastic vocalist"
David Thomas Broughton (Otley) David's manager Howard Monk detailed new deals and said "The Yorkshire and NE party at SXSW gave us a great opportunity for David Thomas Broughton. We're now in discussion regarding the US release of the album, which ought to happen in October this year! Very happy with the promotion and the exposure we got from the event"
Wild Beasts - Leeds and recently Mercury prize nominee. The band's manager Ed Mason informed us that their future US agent saw them at the Yorkshire Showcase in 2009 and went on to coordinate their debut US tour.
Alvarez Kings (Sheffield) - "We had a really good response from last years compilation, we noticed it every where we went in Austin and then to get back home and and be aproached from a label in Mexico and a promoter in New York as a stand out track and possible future dealings was awesome. Worth its weight in gold!"
Lee Smith from Leeds band Middleman enthused on BBC TV - "It's so amazing to be be playing in Texas this year" The band landed themselves a synchronization to NBA 2K11 computer game as a direct result of playing at the Yorkshire SXSW Showcase in 2010.
Second Class Citizen (Huddersfield) - "the Timeless Music Project has been a great platform for me to break into new markets at home and abroad. Being a new unsigned artist it has helped a great deal in broadening my musical horizons and helped get my music across to Japan as well as various other places."
Jake Beaumont-Nesbitt - Executive Director - International Music Managers Forum (IMMF) - "Timeless Music Project and musicyorkshire.com has been providing genuine support for Yorkshire's music sector for over 5 years at home and abroad. Always visible at key music industry events and conferences it's hard not to be impressed with this initiative, in particular the Yorkshire Showcase at SXSW which is a much needed international push for the region's artists and labels and should be fully supported"
